The night before the night before Christmas

Yep, it is what I said up there. Heh, Heh
Our temperature today hit 60ºF (15.5º C) a very nice day.  It is only going down to 46ºF tonight, but it is supposed to rain tomorrow and the high for Christmas day is only to be 50ºF.  The good part is no freezing temps at least for the next few days.

Turned out to be a pretty nice day

Yep, it turned out to be a pretty nice day.  Temperature was close to 50ºF.  I went out and cut about half a cord of wood but I just left it on the trailor as I don't have anymore room in the wood shed.  I will probably dump it by a tree so I can use the trailor to get a couple more loads.

cool and cloudy today ----

Well, it is getting warmer.  44ºF today and going up to 54ºF tomorrow.  It was very cloudy today and that kept the temperature down, tomorrow it is supposed to be clear so the sun will warm us up just fine.

Tuesday, December 20, 2005

Well, here it is Tuesday night already --

Yep, here it is Tuesday evening already, Mary and I were out most of the day today delivering food baskets for my Masonic lodge, now that that is done I reckon it is time to get serious about our Christmas dinner preparations.

Mary made cookies and candy on Monday, and on Friday we will be making pies, (she lets me help) so I guess we are pretty well prepared for the big day.

This is what Mary really looks forward to, she loves it when all the family comes for Christmas dinner.  We should have about 30 people here for dinner.  Children, Grandchildren and Great Grand children.

Then the others will be popping in and out all day too. The weather here is a little better tonight, 31ºF (-1ºC) Tomorrow it will be back to the 50's and no freezing weather predicted at least not till after Christmas.

Anyway, I'll keep saying it    "Merry Christmas"

It is right cold down here tonight, going down to 25ºF (-4ºC). It is supposed to start warming up tomorrow and they are predicting 60ºF (16ºC) for Christmas day.

I reckon I don't need to start making a sleigh.

It's turning colder ---

Yep, first I want to say "Happy Birthday " to Bethany Faber.  Her birthday was Friday but being a senior, I forgot to remember it. (Whew, that was a mouthful)  "Happy Birthday Bethany".

Well it is going to be real cold down here tonight and tomorrow night and it will only be in the low fortys tomorrow all day.  It is going down to 30ºF tonight and down to 25ºF tomorrow night.  But they are predicting  a temperature close to 60ºF for Christmas day.

It was a little cooler here today,

It was only about 51ºF here today with a westerly breeze, a nice day to work outside.  I went for a walk in the woods and did several other outdoor chores.  Drained the gas out of the lawnmowers and other machines that we won't be using for a couple of months.

Here is a picture of cousin Fred Faber with jolly old Santa.

Temps were mild

The temperature today was in the 50's, but it was a kinda soggy day.  It rained this morning then quit around 9 AM, and started raining again tonight .  All in all, I reckon it was a pretty good day.

Tuesday, December 13, 2005

Nice today too.

Yep, it was nice again today, I was able to get out another cord and a half of wood cut, split, hauled to the house  and into the wood shed.  We sure do love having a fire in the fireplace when it is cold outside.  Don't get me wrong, we have central heat and air, but we burn firewood about every day when it is cold outside.

Monday, December 12, 2005

Another great day.

Another great day today, 58ºF with a bright sun, so I went out and cut a load of firewood.  Not much going on, just getting for Christmas.

Friday, December 09, 2005

Well, it has got colder than all get out down here

Yep, the Temperature today was only in the 40's and tonight it is down to 24ºF
That is colder than I like it by about 50 degrees.   It doesn't get cold like this until January normaly.  Winter down here usually starts in early January and ends about the middle of February, I don't know what happened this year.  I guess I will have to hope for a warm January or early spring.

Mary and I wish you all a

"Merry Christmas"

and I just found out that today is Fred Faber's Birthday and he is over 21,

Happy Birthday Fred

The wind got to me a little last night.

We had winds gusting up to about 50 miles per hour last night, About 2:30 or 3 AM, the rain came through and the winds jumped from about 17 to 20 MPH  with gusts to about 50 mph.  I had the roof torn off of one of my sheds, but was able to salvage it and it will be repaired shortly.  We had almost 3 inches of rain last night.  The cold front came through tonight and it is only going to be about 55ºF tomorrow.
Have a great day.

Saturday, November 26, 2005

We had a few sprinkles tonight

We had a few sprinkles this evening, but the day today was very nice just a little breezy.  Cousin Fred Faber up in Cambridge says they had 4 more inches of snow last night but it will be warming up and melting again this week.  If we see any snow, it will probably be in late January or February, if we have snow, that is usualy when it comes.

Friday, November 25, 2005

Friday already ----

It was a little cooler here today so we went out and brought in another load of firewood, I want to get one more cord in before the weather turns cold, that will give us plenty of wood to spare for the fireplace.  I was out there the other day and 5 deer came down and stood looking at me, they were all does, but a few minutes after they left the buck came ambling through too.  He was a pretty nice looking deer, looked to be an 8 point.  They sure do look pretty as they stroll along.  Sometimes I just go out and sit there for a while watching the birds ,squirrels, deer and many other critters that live out there in my woods.  Sometimes a turkey will come by and lots of bobwhite quail,  even coons, possums and polecat are not uncommon.  My oldest boy Chuck, killed a bobcat this morning while he was deer hunting.  I don't let them hunt on my place, I enjoy watching the animals too much.

We had a wonderful Thanksgiving today ---

We sure had a nice Thanksgiving today, the weather was perfect and we ended up with 16 of the family coming by and having dinner with us, we sure enjoyed it. I have to admit though, after dinner I sat down in my favorite chair and dozed for a while. Mary put on a superb dinner and the girls helped her with the dishes afterward. I think everyone left happy and with a full stomach.
I got another picture of the snow in Barrie this morning from cuzn Debbie, but I can't seem to find it they had more snow last night.

Wednesday, November 23, 2005

Great day on our Thanksgiving eve.

Well, the weather today was just lovely.  A smiling sun brought our temperature up to 66ºF here at our place.  Mary has the stuffing made, the potatoes and turnips are peeled and we will get up around 6 am to stuff the bird and put it in the oven.  Our family should start arriving around 10 am and dinner will be at 1 o'clock, yall come on and join us.  Happy Thanksgiving to all and don't forget to give thanks.

I was tired ---

Hello all, I was tired last night and went to bed early, completely forgot to leave a message here on the blog.  I usualy check my emails first thing in the morning, at noon, around 5pm and again before bedtime just in case anyone was wondering.  It was nice here yesterday, sun was shining but there was a mighty cool breeze.  When the wind blew, it felt like the cool air came right through the clothes.  Today is nicer.

Have a nice day.

Tuesday, November 15, 2005

WOW, big day today --- Tornadoes and lots of rain.

We had some tornadoes around us, but the closest that did damage was about 40 miles away.  One went through a field about a mile from here, turned over a truck and a trailer filled with cotton, but not any real damage.  We had 1 and 1/2 inch of rain in about a 2 hour span and gusting winds at 30 to 40 miles per hour all day long.
This morning it was warm and muggy, at 4 pm the temperature was 84ºF,   The temperarure right now at 11PM is 42ºF, a 42 degree drop.  The winds were out of the south all day, but after the front came through it switched and is now coming out of the North. Brrrrrrrr

Jeanne and Freds Grandchildren & us

Hi Yall, well we had a right nice rain last night, we got about 1/2 inch between 2AM and 6AM this morning. Here is a picture taken when we were up for the family re-union, this is Jeanne and Fred Faber's grandchildren, Jordan and Cameron Faber. Scott sent it to me today.

No rain yet --hopefuly it will rain tonight.

Just a lovely Saturday here, bought a bunch of Christmas stuff at the auction tonight.  I finished up our wood rack today, it is 6 ft. high, 10 ft long and holds 4 and 1/2 cords of firewood.   That will easily carry us through the winter with some left over for next year.  Now all I have to do is finish cutting the wood to put in it.  I have about 3 and 1/2 cords cut and split so only about one cord to go.  If it doesn't rain to much tonight and tomorrow I will probably finish that up on Monday or Tuesday.  Got to go to bed now so I won't sleep late, I like eating breakfast before going to church in the morning.

Wood cutting day today

Well, today was another right pretty day and we decided to cut a little firewood.
I used to cut 3 cords of wood in about 4 hours without straining but now 1 cord a day is all I want. The weather was beatiful and it was real nice working in the woods. It took about 3 hours to get a cord cut, split and hauled to the house. A vine caught Mary and scratched her lip a little.
