Subject: Warren Buffett "I could end the deficit in 5 minutes," he told CNBC.

Warren Buffett, in a recent interview with CNBC, offers one of the best quotes about the debt ceiling:

"I could end the deficit in 5 minutes," he told CNBC. "You just pass a law that says that anytime there is a deficit of more than 3% of GDP, all sitting members of Congress are ineligible for re-election.

     The 26th amendment (granting the right to vote for 18 year-olds) took only 3 months & 8 days to be ratified! Why? Simple! The people demanded it. That was 1971...before computers, e-mail, cell phones, etc.

    Of the 27 amendments to the constitution, seven (7) took 1 year or less to become the law of the land...all because of public pressure.

    Warren Buffet is asking each addressee to forward this email to a minimum of twenty people on their address list; in turn ask each of those to do likewise.

      In three days, most people in The United States of America will have the message. This is one idea that really should be passed around.

         *Congressional Reform Act of 2011*

             1       No Tenure / No Pension.

A Congressman collects a salary while in office and receives no pay when they are out of office.

    2. Congress (past, present & future) participates in Social Security. All funds in the Congressional retirement fund move to the Social Security system immediately. All future funds flow into the Social Security system, and Congress participates with the American people. It may not be used for any other purpose.

    3. Congress can purchase their own retirement plan, just as all Americans do.

    4. Congress will no longer vote themselves a pay raise.
Congressional pay will rise by the lower of CPI or 3%.

    5. Congress loses their current health care system and
participates in the same health care system as the American people.

    6. Congress must equally abide by all laws they impose on the American people.

    7. All contracts with past and present Congressmen are void effective 1/1/12. The American people did not make this contract with Congressmen.
Congressmen made all these contracts for themselves. Serving in Congress is an honor, not a career. The Founding Fathers envisioned citizen legislators, so ours should serve their term(s), then go home and back to work.

      If each person contacts a minimum of twenty people then it will only take three days for most people (in the U.S.) to receive the message. Maybe it is time.

Wish I could have been there

I hope everyone had a good time at the reunion, I wish I could have been there but with Mary's illness and my not having a passport, there just was no way we could come up for it.
My wife Mary is going in for surgery on Wednesday July 29, please pray for her. She is to have the arteries in both legs enlarged and they are going to put in a stint. It appears that she has very little blood flow in her left leg which is causing her considerable pain when walking. Hopefully this time, they will get her fixed up as she has had other operations that were supposed to fix all this, but so far they haven't worked.

We have sad news in that Aunt Mary has passed, she was 81 last Nov. I am told that she passed peacefully on January 30th at 6:30PM

Well, our Thanksgiving is just a few days away and the weather is still very nice. The temperature today was 72ºF (22º C) and we have only had one frost so far, tonight it is to be 52ºF (11º C). I reckon winter will be upon us pretty soon, but it isn't here yet. I guess some of yall have had snow already. Anyway, just thought I would let yall know.

I don't have any family news from the Canadian side, but my Granddaughter just had our 18th great grandchild, it is a girl, YEP.

Hi all, yep, we have closed the cabin for the winter so maybe I will be able to update this blog more often. We were able to get everything in pretty good shape, we just lack finishing the ceiling in the downstairs bedroom. We are home again for about 10 days, then back up to the mountains we go. We have the place in pretty good shape again now so we work a little and then fish a little and watch the water tumble by. Every now and again a canoe or rubber raft comes by and on the weekends there are a lot of them. Here is a picture of the view from our porch and another looking back into the kitchen area.

Yep, I have been so busy rebuilding our cabin that I have completely forgotten this blog. It won't happen again, we have the cabin almost finished, just a couple more little jobs and we will be able to sit back and just enjoy it.

We are going back to Arkansas next Tuesday (August 28), and coming home the following Wednesday (Sept 5) after that, we should have it pretty much made.

We have spent most of the last 2 months up at our place in Arkansas, repairing floors, windows walls and all the other stuff that the tornado destroyed. We even had to replace the downstairs front door, complete with the frame. I'm not as young as I was when I built the place, and it takes me a lot more time to get things done, but I guess I shouldn't complain, I am almost 70 and can still get it done. I guess the worst part was climbing up on top of the scaffold and working 20 foot off the ground. My balance isn't what it used to be so it worries me to have to work that high.

Anyway, that lets yall know what has been going on down south.

He all, well we are headed back up to our cabin, we will be up there for another week, but I think we will have it back in pretty good shape by then. Them ole tornadoes are pretty rough. The trees that survived will take years to make good shade again, the wind tore off all the upper branches. Any way, we are getting it fixed up slowly but surely. I threw my back out and couldn't walk for a couple of week but I am getting around pretty well again now. We are still thinking that we may make it to the reunion but it is only a slight possibility right now.

Spring has definitely arrived down here in Tennessee. We have had daytime temperatures in the 70's (21ºC+) and nighttime temperatures in the mid to upper 40's (7ºC+). The daffy dills are in bloom and so are the thunderstorms and Tornadoes. Thankfully for us, they all went to the north and the south of us. Our cabin up in the Ozark mountains got hit by a tornado last fall and it took the roof off, but our next door neighbors cabin was totally destroyed, it sure was a nice place too. He called the other day to tell me he will start rebuilding this weekend. Yall take care, maybe SPRING is just around the corner for yall too.

It was 52ºF here today and is supposed to be in the high 50's (14º+ C) tomorrow and in the 60's before the week is out. sounds good to me. I will probably have daffy dills blooming by next weekend.

From what I see on the ole TV, yall are having a pretty rough winter. It has been colder than usual down here too, but not like what yall are having. Usually our temperature is in the 50's (11ºC +) during the daytime and mid 30's (2ºC+) at night, but this year our daytime temps are in the mid to low 40's (6ºC) and at night right around 30ºF(-1ºC) and down to 25ºF(-4ºC).

Thankfully this week has been a little warmer and it looks like the trend will continue as next week we are supposed to be in the 50's(11ºC+). I reckon spring is just around the corner, it usually starts down here about the middle of February. Happy Valentines to all the family.

Yep, it snowed here last night, we had a real blizzard. I reckon we must have had almost 1/2 inch of snow. There for a while this morning it almost covered the road out front. ha ha. They closed all the schools and most everything else too. Yep, a real blizzard.

I recieved this message from cousin David Barker out in BC.

Paul Goodfellow, husband of cousin Carolyn died on Monday Jan 15. All I know at this point is that he had been dealing for some time with cancer, and the service will be at New Testament Baptist Church at 5525 Gladwin Road in Abbotsford, BC at 2:00pm on Monday Jan 22. I checked the obituaries section of the local newspapers this morning, and there is no information there yet.

When I get more information I will publish it here.

The temperature tonight is supposed to dip down to below freezing tonight and tomorrow night so I reckon it is going to be winter time for a few weeks. Once it starts it usually lasts until about the middle of February that is when spring usually starts. It is supposed to go down to 28ºF (-2 C) tonight. I don't much care for winter, but I do love the spring time.

This sure is nice weather for January, we haven't had a night below 32º F(freezing 0º C) yet this year. It is in the 40's at night and 55 to 65º F(13 to 18º C) during the day. We had a nice rain last night and Mary is getting her stuff together to start on her seedlings on February 10 & 11 and 27th & 28th. That is when she starts our tomato, pepper and some of her other seeds out in the greenhouse. Hope yall are having great weather too.

It is cold down south

Hello all, we are having cold weather already, it usualy does not get this cold until January but we have broken a few records that are up to 32 years old. The temperature got down to 24 º F (-4ºC) Wednesday night, down to 27º F (-3ºC) last night and it is going down to 31ºF tonight. The weather folks keep saying it is cold Canadian air, so yall be nice now and take it back. Thank you.

We almost got wiped out on the way up to our cabin 2 weeks ago. A propane gas tanker truck was going south as we were going north, it lost one of the caps that screw onto their fill nozzle, and guess what, yep right through our windshield, hit the door trim molding next to Mary's head, then it took out the back window and then bounced back up to the front and hit my hat and broke another place on the windshield before falling onto the dash and breaking it and the front speaker. It just barely missed Mary, and it broke the panel on the doorjamb right by her head. With the truck going at about 65 mph and us going the other way at 65 mph, that five pound cap must have been traveling at about 120 mph when it hit us. The good Lord was surely with us that time.

Yep, yall have done us in, we are getting a shot of frigid weather from our Canadian cousins. We had our first frost on Thanksgiving eve, November 23, for us. Then it stayed in the mid 60's to low 70's untill this last Friday night, since then it has been below freezing each night. It was 30ºF on Friday night and 29ºF last night and it is hovering on 32ºF tonight, so I would guess it will be around 29 or 30 by morning.

Well, we had a nice Thanks Giving dinner. I meant to take a before and after picture, but forgot the before one. Here is the after one, as you can see the table reaches all the way into the living room. There were only 15 here today for dinner, usually there are 25 or more. They will all be here for Christmas though.

Almost Thanksgiving down south

Hi Yall.

We are back from the river, the cabin has a new roof and I replaced the broken skylight and the water damaged floors. There is still a lot of work ahead for the Spring, but everything is in order for the winter weather. I didn't quite get finished with the roof, but I got tired and we came home anyway. I only lack 1/2 of the roof on the deck (about 3 bundles of shingles) and the tornado didn't hurt them to badly. We had a lot of rain when we first got there but then it cleared off and the weather was nice for Friday, Sat and Sunday. On the way up there we were hit by a hose cap off of a propane tanker, it weighs about 5 pounds. I came through the front windshield on the passenger side, glanced off the door post, took out the back glass then bounced back up to the front, clipping my ear and hat before landing on the dash, breaking the windshield again and the speaker and speaker grill.

Lucky for us it missed us except for brushing my ear, so neither of us was hurt. I taped up the windshield and put some cardboard in the back window for the trip home and I reckon on Monday I will get them replaced.

Anyway, the good Lord was watching out for us and we are home safely.

Hello all, we just spent a very nice evening with David (Uncle Cecil & Aunt Janet's eldest son) and Karen Barker. It was a very nice visit but the time flew so fast, it seemed like they had just arrived and it was time for them to go. They are touring the state of Tennessee this year. Yep, I am still working at the Halloween costume store but will be off for 2 edays now. The weather here now is in the mid to high 60's during the day and mid 40's at night.

Our cabin up in the Ozark Mountains was hit by a tornado a few weeks ago, we finally were able to get up there and assess our damage. It uprooted 5 of our 7 apple trees put a tree through one corner of the house and ripped the roof off, there was also a lot of minor damage but that was the big part. Most of the trees around the cabin have been broken in two or the tops twisted off. Mary and I ripped up the floor in one of the bedrooms and part of the kitchen down to the sub floor. We will go up in a week or so and refloor them. We will have to replace our skylight and re roof it before the end of November.

We have the roof covered with blue tarps now. We have lots of work up there before we close it up for the winter and more work in the spring. Here are a few pics.

Yep, a tornado hit us on Saturday morning around 10 AM and did extensive damage to our cabin over in Arkansas. It put a tree down on one corner of the place and blew out one of my skylights. I reckon we got off lucky, our next door neighbors place took a direct hit and was totaly destroyed. The hole in the roof has been covered with a tarp, so I guess that is all we can do for it for the next few weeks, then we will be going up for a week or so to fix what we can before winter sets in. Such is life, at least none of our folks got hurt, although there were 2 people drowned upriver from us and another 2 people are still missing. The river flooded and floated off a bunch of cabins and camper trailors. We built our place on high ground so didn't have to worry about the flood.

Hello all, well we finally got a nice break in the weather, we had a nice rain yesterday and the temperature came down below 80ºF (27ºC) today. it was 78ºF (26ºC). It will be down in the 60's tonight. Just came back from a working trip to the cabin, no time for fishing this trip but we plan to go up one more time to close up for the winter in about 3 weeks, I hope to get a little fishing time in then. Yep, the weather down this-a-way is just gorgous. It is running about 85 to 88ºF(29 to 31ºC) and at night it is around 62 to 65ºF (17 to 18ºC). It is just great. Tomorrow (Thursday 7 Sept.) I will plant our fall garden so we will have fresh peas and greens till spring planting time comes around.

I hope yall are having weather as good as ours, but we could use some rain.

Hello all, our temperature has finally dropped out of the 90's (33ºC) and is now in the mid to high 80's (31ºC) today. It is a nice change and we also got a little rain with it last night. We are going up to our cabin this weekend to get away. After this last week we need a few days to collect our thoughts and just relax. We had the funeral for our Stevie (Hoss) yesterday and then in the afternoon the young people in town erected a 14 ft. steel cross at the site where Stevie died. They even got a building permit from the city to make sure it was all legal. It was heartening to Gramaw & I and the rest of the family to see how much he was Loved by the folks in our community. We all will surely miss our "Hoss".

It breaks my heart to let yall know that We have lost our oldest Grandson. Steven Lynn (HOSS) Davis,

Aug. 2, 1979 - August 27, 2006.

Steven was in an auto accident and was killed on Sunday morning on his way to work. He had a heart as big as he was and thought that his place in life was to help all who needed help in any way he could. We will surely miss his happy face, hearty laugh and bright smile.

Steven was such a kind and giving person, he was known to his friends and family as;

"Hoss"

Yep, today we are getting a break, the temperature is only 95º F (35º C) this cool weather sure feels better. I came down with the flue last Wed. and am just beginning to get over it. Everyone else down this a way is well so far as I know.

we had a 2 day break from the 100 degree weather for a few days, but it is back with us now. I reckon with it being in the last throes of summer it will cool down pretty soon. According to the weather news it will not cool down for at least the next week though. only a couple of weeks away from Labor Day weekend.

Hello all, well we are back home again, it was about 10ºF cooler up there, we should have stayed a few more days. I was to lazy to fish, so just lazed around and watched the canoers go by. It was nice and cool down by the river, our cabin sits on a hill looking down on it.

Hi yall,

Yep, I am back from the cabin for a few days, went up and caught a few rainbow trout. We had 27 people up there for the 4th of July weekend. Our Children, Grandchildren and 4 of our Great Grandchildren. Some of them brought their tents and we had a fire down on our island every night with marshmallows and hot-dogs too. The weather was great and we all had a great time. On Saturday a bunch of them went up to Missouri and floated back down to our place in canoes, about 16 miles. Some of them did a bottoms up in the white waters, but they all seemed to have fun. There was a little sunburn after that though. We are going back up this coming Thursday and will be back home on the 17th.

The weather down here is in the hi 80's to low 90's during the day and mid 60's to low 70's at night. Very nice weather for sure. We had a great time up at the cabin but decided to stay home this weekend and rest up. This Sunday is our Church home comming weekend too. We will be going back up next Thursday and come home the following Monday. The fish were biting well, a limit of rainbow trout were not to hard to catch at all.

Hi all, well we had a great trip up to the cabin. The temperatures here now have moved into summer. Hi 80's to low 90's ( 32 to 33º C)daytime, 70's (24º C) at night. We are going back up to the cabin in the morning, this time I am going fishing. Many of our family will be there for our holiday weekend. Yep, Temperatures are in the hi 70 and low 80's and we have had rain every day for the last week. It is supposed to rain again tomorrow but be dry for the weekend, hope it works that way. I may not get another blog out for the next week, we are going up to our cabin in the Ozark Mountains to open it up for the year. Get the water and electricity turned on and see if we had any damage during the winter. We usually have a crowd up there for Memorial day weekend, (last weekend in May) so I have to get it all fixed up before then.

Well, the storms and tornadoes made another run on us last night, this time they went to the south of us by about 8 miles so we are all safe and sound. We had a little over 2 inches of rain in about a 4 hour period with lots of wind and lightning.

I have been having a little run in with my health here of late. I have to go back tomorrow and maybe then we can get it all under control.

The garden is all planted except the tomatoes and we will plant them probably on Friday if the ground is dry enough or as soon as the ground dries up enough to plant them. Well, can't think of anything else to say except take care yall and

Yep, Patricia Doherty has caught up with us. Patricia is Aunt Leola and Uncle Bill Harses Grandaughter. She lives close to Saskatoon SK. way up there in the North country. Her Mother was Leota Harse, Leota was older than most of us and has passed away. They lived in England most of her life, but I understand they have been living in Canada for about the last 4 or 5 years.

Anyway, yall say hello to our newfound cousin.

I don't know what is worse, shoveling snow or cutting grass. I spent most of Saturday cutting grass, with the temperature in the low 80's it is a sweaty job. I haven't shoveled snow in many years, but as I remember it, it was cold hard work. I'll take the grass cutting myself. The temperatures here are in the high 70's to low 80's now with a cool front that yall send down to us every now and again dropping it back to the low 70's for a day or two.

Last night the cool front clashed with the warm air causing several tornadoes around the area. Quite a few folks were killed about 60 miles north of here and over in Arkansas. The thunder boomers were quite intense at times. Some of them were dropping as much as 20 inches of rain per hour, of course they were moving at 30 to 60 miles per hour, so no one got 20 inches in an hour. We had one come through here with wind gusts of 36 miles per hour and lots of rain but we had no damage from it otherwise, we just had lots of rain.

Not much happening here, the daytime temperatures are staying in the low to mid 70's and night time temperatures in the low 50's. It is lovely spring weather. . I love the springtime when the world wakes up from winter,. it is the most wonderful time of the year, I think.

It has been a very busy week, Mary has been poking around in the flower beds and pulling all the leaves away from the flower beds. Our grass is growing pretty good now, won't be long before we start grass cutting. I have finished getting my stuff ready for warmer weather. Cranked up the weed wacker and lawnmower, I reckon on Monday I will put the battery back in the rider and give it a tuneup. We have our early garden started, the greens are coming up good and the tomato seeds are planted in their flats, (didn't see any sprouting yet, but they should be up this week). We hope everyone had a nice St. Patricks day.

Yep, it was a beautiful day, the birds are busy building their nests, the flowers are blooming, in some areas the dogwoods are in bloom and our tulip magnolia is starting to bloom too. Here is a picture from our front yard today showing the daffy dills in bloom. It was a little cooler here today, only 60ºF (16º C ). But it will be warming back up into the 70's by Monday.

Oh yes, I plowed the garden on thursday and then rotary tilled it and Mary made the first spring plantings today.

Congratulations on your new government, maybe now they can reverse the gay marriage junk that the other one passed last year. They reported that this is the warmest winter for our area since 1885. It has been a very nice winter, it has been more like a prolonged fall. It was colder in November than it has been in December or January, hope it keep staying warm like this.
